One curious point in this monument though is Denny and most the party left Alki Point for what was to become Seattle. In fact for several years after the town of Alki and the town of Seattle were at odds with who would survive and become the dominant city on the bay.

While Terry founded the town of Alki it was Denny who founded Seattle and in fact Alki did not become part of Seattle until 1907 when it was annexed to Seattle.

From my understanding Alki Point got the nod from the founders years later because of what had sort of become of downtown Seattle at the time, but the fact is Alki was Alki and Seattle was Seattle and the two were not to be joined together until 27 years after the birth place decision had been made meaning that when the decision was made Alki was not part of Seattle then or before.

People pass through towns all the time and settle some where. That does not mean that towns they pass through become part of their destination!!
