Digitization Specialist

This is a paid internship position performing photographic digitization and cataloguing at the Log House Museum, headquarters of the Southwest Seattle Historical Society in Seattle, WA.

Working as a Digitization Specialist for the Log House Museum requires a technical and computer- literate individual who ideally has previous experience working with digitization, archival documents and/or goal-oriented production projects. Qualified candidates also will be detail-oriented, organized and accustomed to working independently in an environment that handles focused and repetitive tasks and requires a logical balance of efficiency and accuracy.

This opportunity requires the contractor to work within the normal business hours of the museum (noon-4 p.m. Thursday-Sunday) and, as such, is not a work-from-home opportunity. This assignment is expected to last possibly as long as Dec. 31, 2014. Compensation is available through a grant for up to 102 hours. Payment will not be provided past 102 hours. If work remains to be done, the intern may choose to continue on a volunteer basis.

Compensation for this position is $10/hour.

Daily tasks

  • Capture photographs by scanning and importing them into a desktop file and PastPerfect database.
  • Report progress once a week to Museum Manager.
  • Perform basic file organization tasks.
  • Re-house photos in proper archival materials.

Required skills

  • Maintain high standards in the face of pressing deadlines; regularly produce accurate, thorough and professional work.
  • Use goals to guide actions; organize and schedule tasks effectively; determine project urgency in a practical way.
  • Analyze procedures for possible improvements.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of techniques, skills, equipment, procedures and materials.

Desired experience

  • Background in museology, photography, library and archives, or history.

This position is open until filled. Please submit a cover letter and resume to Sarah Baylinson, Museum Manager, at sarah.baylinson@loghousemuseum.info.
